Gorilla Glass and Panda Glass are aluminosilicate glass materials and typically offer higher surface hardness and stronger chemical-strengthening performance than standard soda-lime glass. Soda-lime glass is generally more economical. Material selection should consider thickness, strength, optical performance, processing requirements and project budget.
For the high-alumina Gorilla Glass examples in our technical FAQ data, the reference strengthening target is CS above 650 MPa with DOL above 40 μm. The actual strengthening specification should be confirmed for the selected material grade, thickness and finished-part requirements.
Thermal tempering strengthens glass by heating and rapid cooling, while chemical strengthening uses ion exchange to create compressive stress near the glass surface. Thin aluminosilicate cover glass is commonly chemically strengthened because the process can be used on thinner glass and its strength can be measured using CS and DOL values.
Cutting is best completed before strengthening. Thermally tempered glass cannot be cut afterward because it will break. Chemically strengthened glass can technically be cut in some cases, but the process is not recommended because it can affect edge quality and the strengthened stress condition.
Yes. Ball-drop performance depends on glass thickness, glass size, material and strengthening condition. Impact requirements should therefore be evaluated using the actual finished-part dimensions and the test method required for the project.
GelivableGlass uses a water contact angle above 105° as a standard AF-coating reference. Durability can also be checked by abrasion testing, with the final acceptance criteria confirmed according to the customer specification and coating requirement.
